Maccabi Tel Aviv Players Receive Reduced Suspensions After State Cup Final Incident

Following the unusual events during the State Cup final, the Israeli Football Association prosecutor, Attorney Gilad Bergman, agreed to a plea deal that softened the suspensions for players from Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Be'er Sheva. This agreement came after discussions with the teams' lawyers aimed at reaching a settlement. The revised penalties, pending final approval by the disciplinary court, include a reduction in the number of games each player will miss.

Specifically, Maccabi Tel Aviv players received the following updated suspensions: Kevin Andrade will serve seven games plus seven conditional games, down from eight and eight; Christian Blitz will serve five games plus seven conditional games, reduced from eight and eight; Elad Madmon will serve three games plus three conditional games, lowered from five and five; and Tyrese Asante will serve one game plus two conditional games, decreased from four and four. Additionally, Maccabi Tel Aviv's team manager, Yoav Ziv, will face a three-month suspension instead of the original six months.

A source within the Football Association criticized the decision, stating that the prosecutor set a dangerous precedent by granting leniency for one of the most serious incidents in Israeli football, noting that smaller clubs did not receive such reductions. Meanwhile, the suspensions for Hapoel Be'er Sheva players are also expected to be reduced but have not yet been submitted for court approval.

The final decisions await confirmation by the disciplinary tribunal, which will determine the official penalties moving forward.
