New US Report Warns of Inhalation Risks from Sunscreen Sprays
A recent report from a US environmental consumer organization has raised concerns about the safety of sunscreen sprays, particularly regarding the inhalation of their active ingredients. This issue is especially relevant during the Israeli summer, when many people use spray-form sun protection products. Biomedical engineer and scientist Dekel Vered Katz explained in an interview on the program "HaOlam HaBoker" that while the report is from a non-regulatory, non-profit group, it highlights the risk of unintentional inhalation or ingestion of sunscreen sprays, which should be avoided.
Katz emphasized that the main practical recommendation for those wanting to protect themselves from the sun without risking inhalation is to spray the product onto the hand first and then apply it to the body by hand. This method prevents dangerous inhalation and ensures a more even and effective application, providing better coverage and protection. The report has reignited debate about whether all UV filters offer the same level of protection and the safest ways to use sunscreen sprays.
