US Expands Strikes on Iranian Infrastructure Linking to China and Russia
The United States intensified its attacks on Iranian targets overnight, extending beyond military sites to strategic infrastructure. Iranian media reported that a railway bridge in northern Iran, part of a key transport and trade corridor connecting Iran with China and Russia, was struck by cruise missiles. No casualties were reported. American officials confirmed that two railway bridges were targeted during the operation as part of the expanded campaign.
Another reported target was the maritime control tower at the port of Chabahar in southeastern Iran, along the Gulf of Oman. This tower oversees vessel movements in the region, including shipping lanes to and from the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian sources also indicated that a warehouse at the port was damaged, though loading and unloading activities continued.
These strikes follow an announcement by the US Central Command (CENTCOM) about a new wave of attacks aimed at undermining Iran's ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Washington stated the operations were in response to recent Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the area.
