Lebeiv Family Drops Criminal Complaint Against Simon Lebeiv in Court Settlement
The Lebeiv family has agreed to cancel the criminal complaint against Yehuda Hayut, known as Simon Lebeiv, as part of a settlement to be presented to the court on Thursday. According to the agreement, the complaint will be withdrawn without acquittal, and the defendants will commit not to portray Hayut as connected to the Lebeiv family or their various LLD companies, either directly or indirectly. Attorney Guy Ofir, representing the Lebeiv family, emphasized that the settlement is still subject to court approval.
Ofir explained that the settlement followed the court's acceptance of the argument that most of the alleged offenses took place outside Israel, requiring approval from the Attorney General to proceed with the criminal case. Judge Itai Hermelin raised the issue of extraterritorial offenses on his own initiative after the prosecution's case concluded and rejected the complainants' request to submit additional evidence proving some offenses occurred within Israel. Ofir criticized the court's refusal to allow further evidence but noted that appeals against interim decisions in criminal cases are not permitted, and continuing the trial could have extended until 2030.
Despite the complaint's cancellation, Ofir clarified that this does not constitute an acquittal or clear Hayut of the allegations. The settlement ensures a judicial ruling that Hayut will no longer be presented as linked to the Lebeiv family or LLD companies. He also stated that the Attorney General retains the authority to file charges in the future regarding the alleged extraterritorial offenses. Ofir expressed regret that no actions have yet been taken against him by police, prosecution, or foreign authorities despite the severity of the allegations.
Simon Lebeiv's lawyer, Sharon Nahari, welcomed the settlement, stating that all charges against Hayut would be dropped and that Hayut will continue his work and projects. Simon Lebeiv himself said he is very pleased with the dismissal of all charges against him, as had happened in Germany and other countries, and that he is moving forward with his life and work.
