Brazilian Presidential Candidate Bolsonaro Jr. Pledges to Move Embassy to Jerusalem
Flavio Bolsonaro, son of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and a presidential candidate in the upcoming elections, gave an exclusive interview to Israel's Channel 14. He expressed strong support for Israel and promised to relocate Brazil's embassy to Jerusalem if elected. Flavio addressed the recent controversy surrounding his father, who was barred from running for office until 2030 by Brazil's electoral court over alleged abuse of power. He described this as a politically motivated judicial attack, claiming the court and mainstream media unfairly targeted Jair Bolsonaro while ignoring his positive achievements.
Flavio Bolsonaro also spoke about his admiration for former U.S. President Donald Trump, with whom he recently met at the White House. He vowed to renew and expand Brazil's special relationship with Israel, including appointing an ambassador dedicated to strengthening commercial ties. He highlighted the historical connection between Brazil and its Jewish community of over 120,000 people, emphasizing the importance of treating them well.
Regarding the embassy move, Flavio stated it would happen early in his administration, continuing the initiative started by his father. He praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as intelligent and courageous, promising to invite him to Brazil if elected. Flavio concluded with a hopeful message about restoring and expanding diplomatic, commercial, and friendly relations between Brazil and Israel, aiming to establish major agreements benefiting both countries.
