Smotrich Warns Supreme Court Could Rule Against Entire Tel Aviv Population
Israeli Minister Bezalel Smotrich spoke on Galei Israel radio on Wednesday, addressing recent controversies involving Shin Bet chief David Zini's remarks. Smotrich criticized the Supreme Court (High Court of Justice), accusing it of behaving like a mafia by wielding both financial and legal power to enforce compliance with its rulings. He warned that those who defy the court's decisions face imprisonment or multi-million shekel lawsuits, calling this situation very dangerous and urging the political left to understand the risks.
Smotrich further claimed that the Supreme Court could hypothetically issue a ruling ordering the killing of entire groups such as redheads, Tel Aviv residents, religious or secular people. He argued that if anyone opposed such a ruling, the media would dismiss their objections as a constitutional crisis demanding obedience. He emphasized that the court is far more powerful than the Knesset because the Knesset can be replaced through elections, and ministers like himself can be voted out by the public within months. However, justices like Itzhak Amit and Mayaara cannot be replaced so easily, making the court's power dangerous and frightening, according to Smotrich.
