Pecan AI CEO Highlights AI's Research Potential and Ethical Limits at Industry Conference
Dr. Zohar Bronfman, founder and CEO of Pecan AI, spoke at the Calcalist and HIT Industry Future conference in Holon, emphasizing the significant role artificial intelligence will play in our world. Drawing on his 20 years of AI research experience, Bronfman explained that AI excels at extracting patterns from noise, identifying trends invisible to the human eye, predicting outcomes beyond human capability, and evaluating the value of actions. He noted AI's ability to simulate scenarios, such as predicting athletic potential, and its recent breakthroughs in mathematics achieved by OpenAI.
Bronfman stressed that academia still has a vital role, particularly in radical creative thinking, human connections, and determining what research is ethically appropriate. He argued that while AI can conduct research, decisions about what is important and how to pursue it remain uniquely human responsibilities. He highlighted that ethical considerations cannot be derived from logic alone but require human judgment.
He called for academia to embrace AI as a powerful tool and adapt its methodologies accordingly, viewing this moment as a major opportunity for transformation. Bronfman concluded that successful research often depends on collaborative groups and relationships, underscoring the irreplaceable human element in guiding AI's application.
