Government Deal: Mazor and Merhavim Psychiatric Hospitals to Move to General Medical Centers
The Health Ministry, the Finance Ministry and the Israel Land Authority have signed an agreement to transfer the operations of the Mazor and Merhavim psychiatric hospitals to general medical centers. Under the agreement, about NIS 2 billion will be allocated to establish advanced inpatient infrastructure in the field of mental health.
Mazor Hospital in Acre will be transferred to the Galilee Medical Center and Ziv Medical Center, while Merhavim Hospital will be transferred to Shamir Medical Center. The process is expected to take about five years, after which about 3,500 new housing units will be built on the freed land in high-demand areas, about 1,450 units in Be'er Ya'akov and about 2,000 units in Acre, along with commercial and employment space.
