Tyler Robinson Faces Preliminary Hearing for Charlie Kirk Murder in Utah Court

The preliminary hearing for Tyler Robinson, accused of murdering conservative activist Charlie Kirk, began on Monday in a Utah courtroom. Robinson, 23, appeared handcuffed and shackled as the court viewed graphic video footage of the fatal shooting, which showed the moment Kirk was shot in the neck. Judge Tony Graff Jr. visibly recoiled during the video, while Robinson showed no reaction. Kirk's widow Erica, his parents Rob and Kathy, and other family members attended the hearing but left before the graphic footage was shown after receiving prior warning.

A Utah State Bureau of Investigation detective testified that the autopsy confirmed Kirk's death was caused by a gunshot wound to the neck, classifying it as a homicide. Security camera footage was also presented, showing a vehicle allegedly linked to Robinson arriving at and leaving a nearby residence hours after the shooting. The hearing is expected to last about a week.

Supporters of Kirk, including Donald Trump Jr. and conservative commentators Jack Posobiec and Brandon Tatum, were present in court. Robinson has not yet entered a plea. If convicted of aggravated murder, he could face the death penalty.
