Maccabi Netanya Signs Portuguese Goalkeeper Samo Silva on Two-Year Deal
Maccabi Netanya has agreed to sign 27-year-old Portuguese goalkeeper Samo Silva on a two-year contract. Silva, who impressed coach Roni Levy during recent trials, will be the club's fourth summer signing following Dor Hugy, Grigory Morozov, and Alon Azugi. The club offered Silva an annual salary of approximately 200,000 euros. Once Silva officially joins, Netanya plans to loan out current goalkeeper Omer Nir'on to another team.
Silva, standing 1.93 meters tall, played last season for Maritimo, helping them secure promotion from Portugal's second division to the top tier. He has also played for Chaves and Mafra. This move will mark his first club outside Portugal. Initially hesitant about moving to Israel, Silva changed his mind after consulting with several Portuguese players already competing in the Israeli Premier League.
Netanya opted to sign a foreign goalkeeper after negotiations for Nadav Zamir from Hapoel Jerusalem fell through. The club aims to strengthen its squad ahead of the upcoming season with Silva expected to be a key addition to their lineup.
