Mount Etna Eruption Disrupts Flights, Israeli Airline Adjusts Travel Plans
Italian authorities are closely monitoring the eruption of Mount Etna in Sicily, which has caused significant volcanic ash emissions. This situation prompted aviation authorities to issue a red alert, leading to flight cancellations and the closure of Catania Airport. Israir Airlines announced it is maintaining continuous communication with airport officials and awaiting updated instructions as the situation evolves.
Israir reported that a flight originally scheduled to depart from Israel to Catania will instead take off tomorrow at 6:15 AM to Palermo. From there, passengers will be transported by bus to Catania. The return flight from Catania to Israel is rescheduled to depart from Palermo at 9:55 AM tomorrow. Passengers currently in the affected area have been provided with hotel accommodations, dinner, packed breakfast, and organized transportation from the hotels, according to the airline.
The ongoing volcanic activity and ash cloud continue to impact air travel in the region, with authorities and airlines adapting plans to ensure passenger safety and minimize disruptions.
