Israel Allocates 567 Million Shekels to Shin Bet and Police to Combat Arab Sector Crime
The Israeli government has approved a budget of 567 million shekels to support the Shin Bet and police in fighting crime within the Arab sector. This funding will be redirected from various government ministries by reallocating resources from Decision 550, a previous government resolution that had allocated funds to Mansour Abbas. The budget is set to be officially ratified in the upcoming cabinet meeting on Sunday.
The initiative follows a prolonged campaign led by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Social Equality Minister May Golan to involve the Shin Bet in combating crime in Arab communities. Ben-Gvir described the development as a "tremendous breakthrough for Israeli citizens," contrasting the current Shin Bet chief David Zini's commitment to the issue with the resistance faced from his predecessor Ronen Bar.
Minister Golan emphasized that instead of indiscriminately increasing funding without oversight, the government is now channeling resources toward a focused and uncompromising fight against violent crime and terrorism in the Arab sector. The effort will be jointly led by Shin Bet under David Zini and the Israeli police to restore security for all citizens.
