Buckingham Palace Cancels Prince Harry's Royal Residence During London Visit
Buckingham Palace has officially withdrawn its offer for Prince Harry to stay at the royal residence during his upcoming visit to London. Although Harry's team initially accepted the invitation earlier Monday, palace sources revealed that the Duke did not respond by the required deadline last weekend. Due to the palace's need for sufficient notice to arrange staff and security, the offer was rescinded. Harry's representatives expressed disappointment over the cancellation.
The Duke of Sussex is traveling to the UK primarily to promote the Invictus Games, scheduled for Birmingham next year, and to attend various charitable events. He will be visiting without his wife Meghan Markle and their two children, Archie and Lilibet, as the family will not receive state-funded police security during the trip. This security dispute stems from Harry and Meghan's 2020 decision to step back from senior royal duties and relocate to the United States, leading to ongoing disagreements with the UK government over protection arrangements.
During his visit, Harry plans to tour Birmingham's children's hospital and the National Exhibition Centre, the Invictus Games venue. Later, he is expected to visit Althorp in Northamptonshire, the ancestral home of his late mother, Princess Diana. Although there were initial plans for Meghan and the children to join him at Diana's private grave, it remains unclear if a meeting between King Charles and his two grandchildren will take place. The couple last appeared together in the UK during Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in 2022.
