Israeli Comedy 'American Henna' Premieres with Star-Studded Celebration in Tel Aviv
The Israeli film "American Henna" held its festive premiere on Sunday evening at Cinema City Glilot, just days before its nationwide release on July 9. The event was attended by the film's creators, cast, and industry figures, led by producer Moshe Edri. Among the stars walking the red carpet were director and actor Shalom Assayag, lead actor Israel Atias, Adi Himelblau, Rami Kashi, Sharon Haziz, Melanie Lamberski, and guest actor Justin Turkildsen, known from the series "The Bold and the Beautiful."
A highlight of the evening was the appearance of singer Nissim Sarusi, who has a cameo role in the film. Sarusi received enthusiastic applause from the cast and crew, and the iconic song "Illusions," featured in the movie, was performed live, underscoring its emotional resonance with the story.
"American Henna" is set entirely aboard the legendary tourist ship "Lido" in Tiberias, where a family henna ceremony quickly turns into a lively Moroccan celebration filled with colorful characters, surprising encounters, and humor. The film marks a milestone for Shalom Assayag, who directs a feature film for the first time. The screenplay was written by the couple Dani and Hila Reisfeld, with Dani exploring comedy after previously working on more dramatic films like "Midlife" and "White Panther."
The plot centers on Dudu (Israel Atias), who returns from America to Israel ahead of his wedding. During the henna celebration, he reunites with his childhood love Moran (Adi Himelblau), prompting him to reconsider his life choices and where he truly belongs. While not reinventing Israeli comedy, the film offers many humorous moments, energetic characters, and a lighthearted atmosphere, providing audiences with laughter amid Israel's complex reality.
"American Henna" will be released in cinemas across Israel on Thursday, July 9.
