Democratic Lawmakers Push to Block $700 Million Jet Engine Sale to Turkey
A group of Democratic members of the U.S. Congress, led by Representative Dina Titus of Nevada, has introduced a legislative initiative aimed at blocking the sale of advanced F110 jet engines to Turkey. The proposed deal, valued at approximately $700 million, is being promoted by the Trump administration despite existing legal restrictions on selling American military equipment to Turkey. The initiative reflects growing concerns over Turkey's actions under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has repeatedly threatened military operations against NATO allies and other regional partners in the Middle East.
Representative Titus, a vocal critic of the Turkish government, emphasized on social media platform X that the sale would undermine regional stability and pose a threat to U.S. allies. Alongside Titus, several other Democratic lawmakers including Chris Pappas, Brad Schneider, Josh Gottheimer, Mike Quigley, Jim Costa, Jim McGovern, George Latimer, and Brad Sherman have co-sponsored the resolution. In addition to the legislative effort, Titus is working on a letter to House leadership to prevent any future attempts to reintegrate Turkey into the F-35 fighter jet program.
Titus has also reached out to Republican members of Congress who share concerns about the Turkish government, urging bipartisan support for the initiative. The move highlights bipartisan unease about Turkey's military ambitions and its strained relations with NATO partners, signaling potential legislative hurdles for the Trump administration's arms sales to Ankara.
