Former Meretz MK Criticizes Media Coverage of Anan Khalaily's Transfer to Inter Milan

Despite the significance of the deal, social media users have debated whether the coverage has been sufficiently enthusiastic, suggesting that Khalaily's Arab identity might be influencing the media's response.

Former Meretz Knesset member Mossi Raz weighed in on the discussion, tweeting congratulations to Khalaily and implying that if Khalaily were Jewish, the transfer would have received much more attention. Raz wrote, "Congratulations to Anan Khalaily from Sakhnin, sold this week for 30 million euros to Inter Milan, the Italian champions, the biggest deal in Israeli football history. Haven't heard about it? If he were Jewish, you would have."

Raz's tweet sparked considerable backlash, partly because it contained factual errors: Khalaily's name was misspelled, he was born in Haifa (not Sakhnin), and the transfer had not yet been finalized. Dror Kapah, a commentator from Channel 14, responded to Raz, correcting these mistakes and noting that the transfer news was already featured prominently on major sports websites. Kapah urged Raz not to comment on matters he did not fully understand.
