Instacart Delivery Driver Asks for Extra Tip Despite Leaving Groceries in Sun
A video from a doorbell camera showing an Instacart delivery driver asking for an additional tip after leaving groceries on a doorstep has sparked widespread online reactions. In the roughly 30-second clip, the driver is heard saying, "Honey, can you ask someone to add something to my tip?" even though the customer had already left a $12 tip. Instacart does not have a policy encouraging in-person tip requests after delivery. Some viewers expressed sympathy for the driver, citing low wages in the delivery sector, while others criticized the driver for leaving groceries in the sun and still requesting more money, suggesting the tip should have been reduced or canceled.
This incident is part of a broader wave of frustration with app-based delivery services. In a separate case, a TikTok content creator shared a video showing two pizzas from Little Caesars delivered via DoorDash arriving crushed and inedible. The delivery person reportedly asked for a higher tip despite the poor condition of the order. The video has garnered over 4.5 million views, with many users sharing similar experiences of damaged deliveries.
DoorDash responded by stating that customers can report damaged orders through the app to receive refunds, credits, or redeliveries, sometimes including partial or full tip refunds, countering the common belief that tips are non-refundable.
