Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi Criticizes President Herzog Over Supreme Court Rulings

Israeli Communications Minister Dr. Shlomo Karhi sharply criticized President Isaac Herzog for his recent comments on the Supreme Court (Bagatz) and its rulings. Karhi accused the president of remaining silent two weeks ago when the court issued a decision allegedly contradicting a clear legal provision. He questioned Herzog's absence of response at that time, asking, "Where was the red line then?"

Karhi emphasized that the government and citizens must obey the law rather than what he called "illegal decisions" by the Supreme Court. He stated, "The people are no longer willing to remain silent. We are working to return the country to its citizens."

In his remarks, Karhi also recommended that President Herzog respect the views of former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin regarding the judiciary. He quoted Rabin saying, "The Supreme Court must know its place. I am not impressed by the Supreme Court. It will judge only according to the laws we enact. The Supreme Court is also subject to the law." Karhi's comments reflect ongoing tensions over the role and authority of the Supreme Court in Israeli governance.
