Haredi Protests Escalate as Jerusalem Faction Issues Evacuation Warning to Central Israel Residents
A protest by Haredi demonstrators at Abu Kabir Prison / Yotam Ronen and according to Section 27a Hundreds of Haredim took part today (Wednesday) in protests across the country after, according to the organizers, police intended to transfer 19 yeshiva students classified as draft evaders to military authorities. The protest sites were Nishan Prison in Ramla, the Russian Compound in Jerusalem, Hadarim Prison, Route 4 in the Ra'anana-נתניה area, and the Abu Kabir complex. The main protest center was near the Russian Compound in Jerusalem, where demonstrators tried to prevent the detainees from being removed from the detention facility. Clashes broke out there with police forces, who worked to disperse the protest using a water cannon, mounted police, and stun grenades. At the same time, demonstrations were also held outside Abu Kabir detention center, which was blocked for about three hours, and outside Hadarim Prison in the Sharon.
