IDF Torah School Children Lead Powerful Prayer for Messiah in Ramat Elchanan
On the eve of the Sabbath during the weekly Torah portion Balak, hundreds of children from the Ohel Torah Talmud Torah in Ramat Elchanan gathered for a solemn prayer event titled 'From the Mouths of Infants.' The event was led by Rabbi Yitzchak Zilberstein, the head of the yeshiva and president of the Talmud Torah, commemorating the 85th yahrzeit of Rabbi Elchanan Wasserman, the school's namesake.
The Ohel Torah Talmud Torah was founded over 40 years ago in memory of Rabbi Elchanan Wasserman, a revered Torah scholar. Under the dedicated leadership of principal Rabbi Israel Wolf, the school has grown significantly in both quality and size. Each year, the administration organizes a strengthening campaign for the students leading up to Rabbi Wasserman's yahrzeit, focusing on improving speech, consistent study, honoring parents, and punctuality.
At the culmination of this year's campaign on the 11th of Tammuz, a special prayer gathering took place in the main synagogue of Ramat Elchanan. Rabbi Shlomo Miller opened the event, praising Rabbi Wasserman's greatness and the students' dedication to his teachings. Rabbi Zilberstein then delivered an emotional address emphasizing the power of pure prayer from children, especially in times of great need for mercy in Israel.
He shared a moving story about an adopted child whose heartfelt prayer for a sibling was miraculously answered, illustrating how a child's sincere tears and prayers can break all barriers before God. Rabbi Zilberstein encouraged the children to pray for the coming of the Messiah and the elevation of the Divine Presence, assuring them that their pure prayers have immense power.
The event concluded with the children receiving personal Tehillim (Psalms) books as keepsakes. Rabbi Dov Meir Tannenbaum, son-in-law of Rabbi Zilberstein and a leading figure in Kiryat Malach Yeshiva, led the traditional yahrzeit prayers. The children and teachers sang joyfully as Rabbi Zilberstein departed, applauding his beloved students in a rare moment of public warmth.
