Turkish Sanitation Worker Finds and Returns Lost Bag Containing $87,000 in Gold and Cash
A sanitation worker named Fatih Cesur in northwest Turkey gained widespread attention after discovering a bag left by the roadside containing a large amount of gold, cash, and credit cards valued at approximately 3.5 million Turkish lira (about 87,000 USD). While performing his daily street cleaning duties, Cesur noticed the abandoned bag and upon opening it, was surprised to find 400 grams of raw gold, 14 gold coins, 7 gold bracelets, two Ottoman coins, 998 Turkish lira in cash, and three credit cards.
Cesur immediately reported the find to his supervisor, who contacted the police. Authorities arrived promptly to take custody of the bag and its contents, initiating an investigation to locate the rightful owner. The police are reviewing credit card data and security camera footage in the area as part of their efforts.
The worker’s honesty quickly made headlines in Turkish media and social networks, where many praised his integrity and responsibility. Cesur stated in interviews that he viewed his actions as natural and responsible, emphasizing his hope that the valuables will be returned to their owner soon.
