Iran Vows Nationwide Revenge for Martyr Leader Amid Rising Tensions

Following the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, one of the Revolutionary Guards commanders' advisors reiterated Iran's vow to avenge the martyr leader's blood. Speaking at the leader's farewell ceremony, the advisor emphasized that revenge is a collective duty of the entire nation and a constant demand of the people, independent of negotiations, agreements, or war. He stated, "Revenge belongs to God, and we must be His arm," underscoring that both personal and social responsibilities exist to carry out this vengeance.

The advisor further called on all Iranians, including those unable to act physically, to participate through chants like "Death to America" and prayers for divine retribution, framing God as the ultimate avenger. This declaration comes amid ongoing threats from former U.S. President Donald Trump against Iran, particularly after Iran's refusal to allow the International Atomic Energy Agency access to nuclear sites.

Security experts note that despite enduring months of attacks from two of the world's strongest militaries, Iran has emerged more confident and assertive. The regime continues harsh crackdowns on internal dissent, including executions of critics and political opponents, while intermittently conducting strikes in the Persian Gulf and asserting control over the Strait of Hormuz. Raz Zimmt, head of the Iran program at the Institute for National Security Studies, described the current Iranian regime as "bolder and more self-assured," despite economic and industrial weaknesses.

Most senior Iranian officials today have backgrounds as junior officers in security forces or military units responsible for suppressing protests, arming proxy groups like Hezbollah and Hamas, and climbing the ranks of elite organizations such as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. This militarized leadership underpins Iran's continued aggressive posture regionally and its commitment to retaliatory actions.
