Satellite Images Reveal Extensive Damage to Nearly 800 Military Sites in Iran After Strikes
Planet Labs has restored access to approximately 250,000 high-resolution satellite images taken since March 9, documenting the extensive damage inflicted on nearly 800 military sites across Iran. These damages resulted from airstrikes attributed to Israel and the United States. Previously, access to these images was restricted following requests from the U.S. government, but the company has now made them publicly available again.
The BBC analyzed the images, focusing on two key nuclear sites in Isfahan and Bushehr, revealing significant destruction. The images show damage to various targets including ballistic missile storage and infrastructure, ammunition depots, Iranian naval bases, ground-to-ground missile storage, and other military facilities. Many sites in Bushehr, including government and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps locations, suffered severe damage.
Specifically, military buildings, government facilities, aircraft hangars, ammunition storage, shipyards, runways at Bushehr airport, and missile launch sites were heavily damaged in the strikes. Jeremy Binnie, a Middle East defense expert at Janes military intelligence, told the BBC that the damage aligns with U.S. and Israeli reports of a broad campaign aimed not only at permanent forces but also at the supporting infrastructure.
In the Isfahan region, satellite images show significant damage to military bases and ammunition storage sites. At the strategically important Iranian Air Force base "Shahriar 8," at least 60 facilities sustained heavy damage, underscoring the scale and precision of the attacks.
