Trump Says He and Netanyahu Get Along Well, Plans Meeting Soon
US President Donald Trump told Axios that he and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have a good relationship and that Netanyahu "knows who’s boss." Trump indicated they will likely meet either next week or the following week after Netanyahu requested the meeting. This would be their first official encounter since a recent tense exchange over Iran, during which Trump called Netanyahu "crazy" and accused him of ingratitude amid escalating tensions in Lebanon.
The Israeli Prime Minister’s office confirmed a phone call between the two leaders last Friday, in which Netanyahu congratulated Trump on the 250th anniversary of US Independence Day and agreed to arrange a meeting soon. However, an Israeli source noted the meeting might be delayed due to Trump’s upcoming trip to Turkey for the NATO summit on June 7-8.
In the Axios interview, Trump also commented on the funeral of former Iranian leader Ali Khamenei, stating that the Iranians are eager for a deal. He remarked that all key figures were present at the funeral and that a single shot could have eliminated them all, but the US refrained from action to preserve negotiation prospects.
