France Leads Scoring as World Cup 2026 Round of 32 Concludes
The Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup concluded on Saturday morning, with attention now turning to the Round of 16 starting that evening. France leads the tournament in goals scored with 13, two more than the Netherlands, Argentina, and Germany. Despite this, Belgium has had the most shots on goal at 92, scoring nine times. Panama remains the only team yet to score a goal.
Portugal has had only 15 shots on target, fewer than several other teams including Mexico, Algeria, and Sweden. France tops the shots on target chart with 34. Argentina leads in expected goals (xG) with 9.28, followed by Spain (8.83), Germany (8.64), Switzerland (8.57), and England (8.47). France ranks ninth with 7.86 xG, while Tunisia is last with 1.12. Paraguay advanced to the knockout stage despite a low xG of 1.86, and Portugal is the lowest among the big teams with 5.49.
Spain leads in total passes with 2,834 and shares the highest pass accuracy (92%) with Argentina and Portugal. Australia has had only one offside call against them, while Colombia has had 15. German players have collectively run the most distance at 508 kilometers, compared to Colombia’s 423 kilometers.
Individually, Lionel Messi tops the scoring chart with seven goals, one more than Kylian Mbappé. Messi also leads in shots (24) and shots on target (16), as well as expected goals (4.57), compared to Mbappé’s 2.43 xG. Michael Olisa leads in assists with five, one more than Bruno Guimarães. Rodri has the most passes at 435. Paraguay’s goalkeeper Orlando Chil leads in saves with 24, followed by Vozinha of Cape Verde with 18. Emiliano Martínez has made only four saves, the fewest among goalkeepers advancing to the knockout stage. Andrés Cubas of Paraguay has run the most distance individually, covering 49 kilometers so far.
