Hapoel Tel Aviv Challenges Insurance Coverage for Yam Madar Ahead of National Team Games
Yam Madar, the talented guard formerly of Hapoel Tel Aviv, has been at the center of attention recently due to his contract status. Madar exercised a release clause to terminate his contract with Hapoel Tel Aviv, making him a free agent able to sign with any team, with Maccabi Tel Aviv reportedly leading the race to acquire him.
Amid the competition between the two Tel Aviv clubs, Hapoel Tel Aviv sent a letter to the Israeli Basketball Association clarifying that Madar no longer has insurance coverage through their club since his contract ended. The letter stated that Madar is no longer part of Hapoel Tel Aviv's roster and that from the contract termination date, he is not covered by the club’s insurance policies for any injuries or incidents during his activities.
The Basketball Association expressed strong disapproval of Hapoel Tel Aviv's move, accusing the club of trying to harm the national team and seeking publicity at the expense of the player and the team. A spokesperson told Sport 5, "Yam can play, Hapoel Tel Aviv is trying to make headlines on our and the player's account. This is not the first time they have tried to damage our national team."
The controversy arises as Madar is included in the Israeli national team roster for upcoming games scheduled for July 3 and July 6, 2026. The letter was sent solely to clarify the insurance situation so all relevant parties are aware and can act accordingly.
