Hamas Official Caught Dining in Luxury in Cairo Amid Gaza Humanitarian Crisis
A new video circulating on social media shows Taher al-Nunu, a senior Hamas official and the group's communications advisor, dining at the upscale "Guzour" steakhouse in Cairo. The footage, released by Palestinian activists, has sparked outrage both inside Gaza and among Palestinians abroad due to the ongoing severe humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. While residents in Gaza face food shortages and long lines at aid distribution centers, al-Nunu was seen enjoying a meat meal with relatives in luxury, highlighting a stark contrast between Hamas leadership and the population they govern.
The criticism was led by Palestinian activist Mustafa Adel, based in the UK and known for opposing Hamas. Adel shared the images and wrote that al-Nunu, described as the "wolf of negotiations," was comfortably dining in Cairo while Gaza residents queued for food. Adel also claimed that al-Nunu's presence at the restaurant nearly caused confrontations with angry Gazans in Egypt, who attempted to approach him but left due to the crowd. Adel warned that Hamas leaders are safest in Qatar, as Gazans outside would "chase them with slippers."
The images quickly spread within Gaza, provoking bitter and sarcastic responses from locals. One Gaza resident mocked al-Nunu for eating lamb at a luxury restaurant while others survive on garbage. This controversy adds to growing Palestinian criticism of Hamas leaders living abroad in Qatar, Turkey, and Egypt, who continue to direct political and media efforts remotely while Gaza residents bear the heavy consequences of Hamas rule and ongoing conflict.
