Israeli Police Promote Officer Who Assisted Police Chief with Home Renovation
The Israeli Police are seeking to promote Deputy Superintendent Nir Nagar, who helped Police Commissioner Danny Levi with renovations at his private home, to the rank of Superintendent. Nagar was appointed to his current role at the national headquarters less than a year ago and now serves as the national project manager for the "Police Stations" program, a key initiative led by the commissioner.
Nagar previously attracted attention for his role as an informal renovation advisor to Commissioner Levi at his home in Zichron Yaakov, where he provided consultations and was physically present to assist in decision-making. This raised questions among senior police officials about the implications if Nagar were to seek promotion.
Despite having been approved for his current position only last December, internal police documents obtained by ynet reveal an unusual request to upgrade the rank associated with Nagar’s role. His responsibilities include leading efforts to strengthen police stations, coordinating between departments, identifying obstacles, monitoring program implementation, and supporting station and district commanders.
The primary justification for the promotion is not an expansion of duties but rather "representation." The document states that Nagar reports directly to the deputy commissioner and works closely with department heads, district commanders, and other senior officials. The rank increase is intended to "ensure alignment between formal authority and actual responsibility, and to enable appropriate standing with partners."
The police emphasized that all promotion and placement procedures are conducted orderly and in accordance with the law.
