Itamar Fleishman Condemns Yair Lapid's Remarks as Classic Anti-Semitic Conspiracy
During a broadcast on Channel 14's program The Patriots, panelist Itamar Fleishman sharply criticized opposition leader Yair Lapid's comments about the ultra-Orthodox community. Lapid had sparked controversy by allegedly stating, "Our children will die so that yours continue to receive money," linking the deaths of soldiers in combat to financial benefits received by the ultra-Orthodox. Fleishman denounced this connection as a "classic anti-Semitic conspiracy," emphasizing that while political debates on budgets or military conscription are legitimate, directly associating soldier casualties with monetary gain crosses a dangerous red line.
Fleishman warned that normalizing such statements threatens democracy by fostering harmful narratives. He distinguished between legitimate criticism and the creation of blood libels, noting that pointing fingers at a population is common but must not devolve into conspiratorial accusations. Additionally, Fleishman suggested that former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett's previous silence contributed to the normalization of this discourse, which he believes has led to a decline in public acceptance of the term "left."
