Canada Joins Eurovision Song Contest Starting in 2027 in Bulgaria

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) announced on Monday that Canada will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest beginning in 2027, when the event will be hosted in Bulgaria. This marks Canada's debut in the competition, joining Australia as a non-European country competing in Eurovision. Canada will enter the contest starting from the semi-final stage.

Last week, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) officially joined the EBU, paving the way for Canada's participation. The EBU highlighted that Canada ranked among the top three countries in the "Rest of the World" voting category and was one of the largest purchasers of tickets outside Europe. Many Canadian fans traveled to Vienna this year to attend the semi-finals and grand final.

Marie-Philip Bouchard, President and CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada, expressed excitement about bringing the world's largest live music event to Canada, emphasizing the opportunity to showcase Canadian talent on a prestigious international stage. She also noted that Canadian fans will now experience the added thrill of seeing their own country perform live at Eurovision.

Martin Green, Eurovision's Executive Supervisor, welcomed Canada’s addition, citing the country's long-standing connection to the contest through artists like 1988 winner Celine Dion. He expressed anticipation for Canada to bring its unique voice, creativity, and energy to the 2027 contest in Bulgaria.
