Canada Joins Eurovision Song Contest for First Time in 2027 in Bulgaria

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Canada's public broadcaster CBC/Radio-Canada announced on Wednesday that Canada will participate for the first time in the Eurovision Song Contest, scheduled to take place in Bulgaria in 2027. Canada is the first new country to join the competition since Australia debuted in 2015 and will compete in the semi-final rounds of the contest's 71st edition. This announcement follows CBC/Radio-Canada's recent acceptance as a full member of the EBU, a key step enabling Canada's legal and organizational participation.

Details about how Canada will select its official Eurovision representative will be revealed later this year. Canadian enthusiasm for Eurovision is well established; during the 2026 contest in Vienna, Canadian viewers ranked among the top three in the "Rest of the World" voting category, and many Canadian fans traveled to Vienna to attend the semi-finals and grand final. Canada also has a historic connection to Eurovision through Céline Dion, who won the contest in 1988 representing Switzerland.
