Winery 70 Offers Elegant Mediterranean Brunch Hidden Near Tel Aviv-Ashdod Road
Winery 70, located in the Moshav Amonim near the road connecting Tel Aviv and Ashdod, offers a unique Mediterranean experience combining excellent wines and a flavorful brunch. The winery was founded by Shimon Zohar, a former real estate entrepreneur who developed a passion for winemaking. Zohar cultivates three main wines: a restrained Sauvignon Blanc with tropical fruit notes, an elegant rosé blend of Drayf and Petit Verdot, and a smooth red blend of Petit Verdot, Petit Sirah, and Cabernet Franc. All wines are kosher and priced between 98 and 150 shekels, with some aged vintages available at higher prices.
Zohar personally prepares a Mediterranean-style brunch served every Friday from 10:00 AM until before Shabbat. The menu includes homemade labneh with za'atar and olive oil, yellow pea cream with onions and schug, Caprese salad, fresh market salad, roasted peppers, black lentils with pumpkin and green onions on yogurt, and a shakshuka of free-range eggs in a tomato and pepper sauce. The brunch costs 105 shekels per person, excluding wine. A couple sharing brunch and a bottle of chilled wine can expect to pay around 325 shekels.
The winery’s name, Winery 70, is inspired by a Talmudic phrase "Wine enters, secret exits," where the gematria value of the words for wine and secret is 70. The venue is praised for its relaxed atmosphere, generous portions, and the personal hospitality of Zohar, who acts as owner, winemaker, and chef. Winery 70 is open only on Fridays and can be contacted at 054-7866638 for reservations.
