New Jersey School Withdraws Yearbooks After Hitler Childhood Photo Appears
A New Jersey middle school faced shock and swift action after a childhood photo of Adolf Hitler was mistakenly included in its yearbook's baby pictures section. The East Brook School in Paramus distributed the yearbooks to students at the end of the school year, but once the administration identified the image, Principal Ray Opherly sent a letter to parents ordering an immediate recall of all copies to prevent further distribution.
In his letter, Opherly condemned the inclusion, stating that Hitler symbolizes hatred, antisemitism, and the Holocaust atrocities, including the murder of six million Jews. He emphasized that the photo does not represent the school's values or identity and that its presence in an official school publication is unacceptable. The school is working to produce a corrected yearbook edition as soon as possible and is coordinating with New Jersey law enforcement regarding the recalled copies.
It remains unclear whether a student was responsible for inserting the photo or how it was initially overlooked. However, similar incidents involving references to Hitler in school yearbooks have occurred previously. The school expressed commitment to upholding respect and inclusion for all community members while addressing the issue promptly.
