State Comptroller Reveals Unsafe Public Shelter Conditions in Surprise Inspection
State Comptroller Matanyahu Englman released a special report on the condition of protected shelters in public institutions following a surprise inspection conducted during recent days of conflict. Over two consecutive days, Englman’s team inspected 16 buildings across five public bodies nationwide: the National Insurance Institute, Employment Service, Clalit Health Services, Maccabi Health Services, and Health Ministry's Tipat Halav clinics.
The report highlights that in the ongoing security situation, having functional protected shelters is not merely a technical issue but a critical factor in safeguarding human lives. Despite this, the surprise inspection uncovered various deficiencies in the readiness of some shelters, necessitating urgent corrective action by the responsible organizations.
Englman urged all public bodies to proactively inspect their protected shelters, immediately address any faults found, and ensure that in emergencies, accessible and fully operational shelters are available to the public. He emphasized that the current security reality demands that public institutions providing essential services be fully prepared for any scenario.
