State Comptroller Reports Neglect of National Cybersecurity Oversight Over Five Years
The State Comptroller's recent report reveals that over the past five years, the Privacy Protection Authority has conducted no supervisory activities within government offices. This finding is part of a broader chapter on national IT infrastructure in the report. Additionally, 60% of the government cyber units examined (three out of five) failed to verify whether subordinate entities comply with cybersecurity guidelines.
Despite the responsibility of the cyber defense system and the Shin Bet for directing and overseeing critical national infrastructures, including the Electric Company, Airports Authority, water suppliers, communication systems, banks, financial institutions, and transportation bodies, significant gaps and lack of information were found regarding their physical protection measures for server and communication rooms.
The report highlights serious deficiencies in the state's cybersecurity governance and physical security protocols, raising concerns about the protection of vital national infrastructures. The findings suggest an urgent need for improved oversight and enforcement mechanisms to safeguard Israel's critical systems.
