State Comptroller Finds Significant Safety Oversights in Daycare Supervision Despite Some Improvements
More than four years after responsibility for daycare centers for toddlers shifted to the Ministry of Education, supervision of these facilities remains inadequate, according to a State Comptroller report. Comptroller Matanyahu Englman noted some improvement compared to a 2022 review conducted shortly after the Ministry of Education assumed oversight of daycare frameworks for children from birth to age three.
However, the report highlights that a large proportion of the daycares inspected by the Ministry's supervision revealed serious safety deficiencies related to electrical systems, building structures, or playgrounds. These safety lapses pose a significant risk to the toddlers attending these centers. The report emphasizes the urgent need to address these hazards to ensure the wellbeing of young children in daycare settings.
