Tel Aviv Area Leads in Car Thefts, SUVs Most Stolen, White Cars Favored by Thieves
A new report by Ituran, based on a database of over one million vehicles, reveals that the Tel Aviv metropolitan area (Gush Dan) is the primary hotspot for car thefts in Israel. The data shows that 40% of all vehicle thefts occur in this region. SUVs and jeep-type vehicles are the most targeted, accounting for 40% of stolen cars nationwide. Additionally, white is the most popular color among thieves, representing 39% of stolen vehicles.
The report also highlights the evolving methods used by car thieves, noting a shift towards technological means. The leading theft technique involves electronic connection and reprogramming, responsible for 58% of thefts. Regarding the fate of stolen vehicles, about 60% are dismantled for parts and sold in the black market, indicating a significant trade in stolen car components.
These findings underscore the challenges faced by law enforcement in combating technologically sophisticated car theft rings, especially in the densely populated Gush Dan area. The report provides critical insights for authorities and vehicle owners to better understand and address the trends in vehicle theft across Israel.
