Kfar Yona Signs Major Development Deal for Over 10,000 Housing Units and Infrastructure
Kfar Yona is set for significant growth following the signing of a master development agreement on Monday, attended by Mayor Albert Tayeb, Housing Minister Haim Katz, and senior officials including Nissim Peretz, chairman of Netivei Israel, and Professor Avi Simhon, chairman of the National Economic Council. The agreement outlines plans to build more than 10,000 housing units, with 6,131 on state land and over 4,000 on private land, alongside approximately 1.5 million square meters dedicated to industrial, commercial, and employment spaces.
A key component of the deal is the government's commitment to construct a northern bypass road around Kfar Yona, aimed at alleviating heavy traffic congestion. The tender for this road is expected to be published in the third quarter of 2027, with a construction period of about 40 months, targeting completion by 2031. This infrastructure project will also include connections to the new Sharon interchange over Highway 4, grade separations, upgrades to Highway 4 with public transport lanes, and the creation of bicycle paths.
The total investment for the master plan is estimated at around two billion shekels, which will accelerate development in Kfar Yona. The municipality will receive an advance funding of 52 million shekels to support infrastructure development, public institutions, and the establishment of a dedicated management team for the project. Approximately 463 million shekels will be allocated for infrastructure improvements such as roads, sidewalks, drainage, bike paths, and open spaces, while about 180 million shekels will fund new public institutions, upgrades to existing buildings, and enhancements in older neighborhoods.
Minister Katz described the agreement as part of a broader initiative to expand housing supply and strengthen cities in Israel, highlighting the integrated development model that balances new neighborhoods, advanced infrastructure, public institutions, and employment areas to boost the local economy. Mayor Tayeb emphasized the state's confidence in Kfar Yona's potential and stressed the importance of maintaining residents' quality of life alongside growth, particularly underscoring the critical, budgeted commitment to the bypass road as a vital artery for the city.
