CBS News Crew Attacked in Chicago with Racial Abuse and Vandalism During Live Broadcast Prep

A CBS News Chicago reporter and cameraman were violently attacked on Monday afternoon while preparing for a live broadcast in Chicago. According to Chicago police, several men arrived in a white commercial vehicle, exited, and approached the news crew, hurling racial slurs at one of the journalists. One suspect commanded a dog to attack the two, but the dog did not bite. The assailants then smashed the cameraman's camera and broke the crew's vehicle window before fleeing the scene. Neither journalist was physically injured.

Following the incident, police apprehended several suspects after a chase. Investigators are also examining a related event where a gun was reportedly pointed at another individual. A CBS spokesperson expressed shock and gratitude that the journalists were unharmed. The Chicago Police Department confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
