IDF Chief Marks 1,000 Days of War, Highlights Strategic Crossroads and Ongoing Challenges

On the occasion of 1,000 days since the outbreak of the war, IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir held a comprehensive intelligence, operational, strategic, and multi-theater assessment meeting on Monday. The event included members of the General Staff Forum, division commanders, and other senior IDF officers. The ceremony began with a moment of silence for fallen soldiers and a playback of a radio order from Lt. Col. Asaf Hamami at the start of the October 7 attack.

During a panel discussion with field commanders on lessons learned and operational challenges, Zamir described the current conflict as one of the longest, most complex, and demanding in Israel’s history. He emphasized that the operational and command experience gained is unprecedented since the IDF’s establishment. Zamir characterized the October 7 attack as an assault on the very existence of the Jewish people, underscoring the obligation to remember the fallen and wounded by continuing to learn and adapt.

He stated, "This war has changed the methods of warfare, operational concepts, and the way we act. We remember, learn, and prepare for continued fighting and the many challenges ahead." Zamir also stressed the IDF’s commitment to deepen its achievements across all fronts while maintaining professionalism, responsibility, and humility. He reiterated that the responsibility for the security of the state and its citizens remains firmly on the shoulders of IDF commanders and soldiers moving forward.
