Yair Golan Condemns Naor Narkis's Attacks on Hesder Yeshiva Students
Yair Golan, chairman of the Democratic Party, criticized Naor Narkis, a party primary candidate, for his remarks against soldiers and Hesder yeshiva students affiliated with Religious Zionism. In an interview with Galei Tzahal, Golan revealed he had a difficult conversation with Narkis following the comments, emphasizing that "statements against groups within the State of Israel will no longer be tolerated." Golan stated that Narkis accepted this position.
Golan argued that it is inappropriate to attack Hesder yeshiva students directly, suggesting instead that criticism should be directed at Religious Zionist leaders like Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir, whom he accused of pushing the community toward extremism. He said, "We should attack Smotrich and Ben-Gvir, not the students."
In response, Narkis issued a statement affirming his good relationship with Golan and confirming their recent conversation. He acknowledged their disagreements on several issues but noted shared goals, including ending the Hesder yeshiva arrangement and drafting religious women into the military. Narkis added that he intends to make these demands part of any future coalition agreement.
