Three U.S. Wildland Firefighters Die Battling Massive Colorado Forest Fire

Three firefighters died and two were injured by burns after being trapped in a rapidly spreading forest fire in Mesa County, Colorado, near the Utah border. The U.S. Department of the Interior announced that the names of the deceased firefighters have not yet been released pending notification of their families. The firefighters were part of the U.S. Wildland Fire Service and the U.S. Forest Service, serving within a combined task force responding to merged fires that formed the massive blaze known as the "Snider" fire. So far, the fire has consumed approximately 114 square kilometers of forest land.
