Mother of IDF Soldier Killed in Gaza Denied Access to Son’s Personal File Over Security Concerns
Dr. Maayan Sherman, mother of IDF Corporal Ron Sherman who was kidnapped and killed during an Israeli military airstrike in a Gaza tunnel, revealed that a senior IDF officer refused to let her access her late son's personal file. The officer claimed that reading the file could endanger the security of Israeli soldiers in Gaza. Sherman, who has been outspoken against the political and military establishment since her son's death in November 2023, recently learned of new documentation regarding Ron's abduction on October 7.
In a social media post, Sherman described meeting a brigadier general who told her directly that she could not see the file due to security risks. She expressed disbelief at the justification and vowed to obtain and read the file to prove her claims about negligence and cover-up surrounding her son's death. Ron Sherman was killed alongside fellow captives Nick Beizer and Elia Toldano during an IDF airstrike targeting Hamas Northern Brigade commander Ahmed Randour. The IDF stated that Ron's death was collateral damage from the operation.
The IDF responded that throughout the conflict it has shared all available intelligence and materials with families, within the limits of information security. The military emphasized its commitment to transparency with bereaved families and said it continues to operate accordingly.
