Spanish Traveler Documents Stay at World's Most Isolated Floating Airbnb Suite
Rubén Holgado, a 23-year-old travel influencer from Barcelona, undertook an extensive journey to stay at the Tiki Suite, a floating Airbnb described as the most isolated hotel room in the world. To reach the suite located in the waters between Florida and Cuba, Holgado flew 10 hours from Barcelona to Miami, drove five hours to Key West, and then took a one-hour boat ride. The property is classified as a vessel, requiring him to obtain a boating license before his stay.
The five-night stay cost $3,458 and came with strict instructions from the owner, known as Captain Chris, including a list of necessary equipment and warnings not to stray far from the floating home due to shark presence and previous rescue incidents. The Tiki Suite offers a unique glamping experience without electricity or civilization, featuring a central room with a double bed, bathroom, kitchenette, TV with DVD player, kayak, and a deck with direct water access.
Holgado described the experience as simultaneously peaceful, adventurous, and slightly intimidating, especially as the sea was rough during his visit. Despite initial doubts about the worthiness of the trip, his stay concluded without incident. He recommended the experience for adventurous travelers seeking extraordinary destinations and time away from civilization.
