Spanish Traveler Documents Stay at World's Most Isolated Floating Airbnb Suite
Rubén Holgado, a 23-year-old travel influencer from Barcelona, undertook an extensive journey to stay at the Tiki Suite, a floating Airbnb accommodation located between Florida and Cuba. Holgado flew 10 hours from Barcelona to Miami, then traveled five hours by land to Key West, followed by a one-hour boat ride to reach the isolated floating home. The property, described as the "most isolated hotel in the world," required Holgado to obtain a boating license since it is classified as a watercraft.
The five-night stay cost $3,458 and came with strict instructions from the owner, known as Captain Chris, including a list of necessary supplies and warnings not to stray far from the floating house due to shark presence and previous rescue incidents. The Tiki Suite offers a central room with a double bed, shower, toilet, a TV with DVD player, kitchenette, kayak, and a deck with direct water access. Holgado described the experience as simultaneously peaceful, adventurous, and slightly intimidating.
Despite rough seas during his stay, Holgado completed the trip without incident and emphasized that the unique glamping experience is ideal for adventurous travelers seeking to disconnect from civilization. He documented the entire journey, highlighting the challenges and thrills of reaching and staying in such a remote location.
