U.S. releases text of Israel-Lebanon accord outlining Hezbollah disarmament
The U.S. State Department published the text of the agreement signed between Israel and Lebanon. The deal contains 14 clauses and is based on restoring Lebanese sovereignty over its territory, while disarming all non-state armed groups, including Hezbollah, and destroying their infrastructure.
According to the agreement, two pilot areas have been designated where the Lebanese Army will assume security responsibility after the armed groups are dismantled. The pilot program is expected to be expanded later to additional areas.
The Lebanese government commits irreversibly to restoring its full sovereignty and ensuring that these groups have no military or security capability. Israel says it has no territorial ambitions in Lebanon. The United States will work to mobilize international support for Lebanon's reconstruction.
