Trump Says Scrapping Obama Deal Prevented a Nuclear Iran and Saved Israel

U.S. President Donald Trump told the annual policy conference of the conservative Christian group Faith and Freedom Coalition in Washington that his decision to cancel Barack Obama’s nuclear agreement with Iran prevented a far more dangerous outcome.

Trump said, “I canceled the deal of Barack Hussein Obama. If I had not done that, Iran would have nuclear weapons. If we had not done that, you would not have Israel now. Israel would have disappeared. And probably the Middle East would have disappeared, and us. They could have fired at us. We would have wiped them out pretty quickly, but they could have taken a bite out of us too.”

The remarks framed the Iran deal as a decisive turning point, with Trump arguing that leaving it in place would have allowed Iran to obtain nuclear arms and threatened Israel, the wider Middle East, and the United States. He made the comments during his speech at the group’s annual policy summit in the U.S. capital.
