UAE and Iran foreign ministers discuss freedom of navigation in Hormuz call

The foreign minister of the United Arab Emirates, Abdullah bin Zayed, spoke by phone with Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, according to an Emirati report.

During the call, bin Zayed stressed the need to protect freedom of navigation, including in the Strait of Hormuz. He also said both sides should fully comply with the terms of the memorandum of understanding, international law, and the principles of good neighborliness.

The report did not say when the conversation took place or provide any Iranian response, but it placed the discussion in the context of maritime security in the strategic waterway.
