Israeli traveler freed after alleged medical supply smuggling arrest in Turkish Cyprus

Israeli citizen Israel Meir Gotthold, 24, who lives in the United States, says he was arrested about a month ago at an airport in Turkish Cyprus while traveling to Mexico with medical vials connected to his work. Police accused him of smuggling sensitive medical equipment, confiscated the supplies and detained him, along with a local doctor and a clinic manager who were suspected of selling him the items. Gotthold told Maako that he showed official documents and international permits proving the cargo was legal, but officers ignored him.
