Iran International says it has uncovered a vast, secret underground compound built in central Tehran for Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. The report says the facility, called “Habib Ebrahimi,” was constructed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and designed to protect Khamenei from attack, including with a blast-resistant room.
According to documents and maps cited in the investigation, the project began in 2009 with Khamenei’s approval and continued for about a decade. The complex reportedly includes two shelter levels at depths of 30 and 35 meters, intended to withstand missile strikes, along with a 27-meter escape tunnel network leading to different points in Tehran.
The report adds that the surface structure was disguised as a sports center for security cover. Beneath it, at a depth of 15 meters, engineers built a three-level parking garage and shooting ranges. The underground site was reportedly developed in Mofid Alley in Tehran.
The project was funded and carried out by the Revolutionary Guards’ engineering arm. Oversight was assigned to Hassan Akbari, a close member of Khamenei’s security team and head of his protection unit. Akbari died in 2016 in what was publicly described as an “training accident,” though security sources say he was actually killed amid internal power struggles around the Leader’s office. The report says the maps and evidence contradict denials by former Iranian officials, including Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi and Ezzatollah Zarghami, who said Khamenei had no underground bunker.
